The real problem

Why most fitness programs fail masters skiers

The demands of skiing don't decrease with age — but the work required to prepare for them changes completely. Generic programs miss four things that matter most.

Age-agnostic programming assumes you recover like a 25-year-old

Every program is built around masters-athlete recovery needs and realistic rest demands

High-intensity group training may not match the recovery needs or joint tolerance of every masters athlete

Anti-glycolytic protocols — work hard but never to failure, so you adapt without burning out

Strength training in isolation with no connection to what skiing actually requires

Every exercise includes ski-transfer notes explaining exactly why it matters on the mountain

Mobility and recovery treated as optional add-ons, not part of the core program

Dedicated movement-quality work built into every training week — not tacked on at the end

The right training for masters skiers is specific, intelligent, and built around the realities of recovery, mobility, and the actual mechanics of skiing. That's what's been missing — until now.

The system

Train the systems skiing actually demands.

Three integrated pillars, each targeting a specific physical demand. Mobility and recovery run as a thread across all three — built into every week.

Balance & Stability

Reactive strength and proprioception for changing snow and uneven terrain. This helps you practice control when conditions and terrain shift.

Anti-Burn Endurance

Anti-glycolytic protocols that build repeatable output while supporting recovery. Ski top to bottom without quad failure.

Foundational Strength

Squats, hinges, presses, and carries programmed around masters-athlete recovery and ski mechanics. The base everything stands on.

Mobility & Recovery — an integrated layer across all three pillars. Every training week includes dedicated movement-quality work. Appropriate rest is never penalized.

Year-round structure

Built for the full year, not just fall.

Four phases, each with a distinct purpose, so you're always building toward your next season — not starting over from zero every August.

Spring · Apr–May

Recovery & Foundations

Rebuild after the season. Restore movement patterns, base strength, and connective-tissue resilience.

Summer · Jun–Aug

Strength Build

Heavy strength work and endurance development when you have the most recovery capacity.

Fall · Sep–Nov

Transition & Power

Sport-specific power, balance, and anti-glycolytic work. Get ready for snow.

Winter · Dec–Mar

In-Season Maintenance

Preserve strength and recover well between ski days. Don't lose what you built.

Each phase has multiple programs at different levels. The app recommends the right program based on the time of year and your training history.

The founder

Built by a masters skier, for masters skiers

I'm Mike. I've been strength training for 48 years and skiing 50+ days a season at Snowbasin and Powder Mountain in Utah. I'm a StrongFirst SFL and AGT certified instructor.

Ski Strong for Life is the system I built for myself. I spent years figuring out what actually works for skiing — and discovered that strength training alone wasn't enough. Adding purposeful balance, mobility, and anti-glycolytic conditioning was the missing link.

Now I'm sharing the complete system with masters skiers who want to keep skiing strong for the next 10, 20, or 30 years.

Why athletes return to the program

"Your previous exercise recommendations helped me a lot, and I continued to use them even after you had to stop. Now, I need them more than ever."
— Jim, 78

Jim is a longtime skier who continued using the earlier exercise recommendations during the program's hiatus. He is now working to maintain his activity and return to the slopes.

"In the years your site was down, I went from being an expert skier to more like a beginner. But the information on Skifitnation.com has already encouraged me. Even though I may not be able to do every exercise, the balance ones are especially helpful for both skiing and paddle boarding."
